Outspoke
Summary: Outspoke is a platform designed to provide users with comprehensive insights into their supply chains, leveraging CRM tools and data analytics through METRC track-and-trace technology.
Roles & Responsibilities: UX Research, UX/UI Design
Problem: Industry leaders in supply chain management have limited visibility into their supply chains, inventory management, and client relationships, making it difficult to make informed business decisions.
Solution: Outspoke delivers an intuitive interface that centralizes critical information, giving users clear access to product data, revenue, commissions, inventory tracking (FIFO), client management, and potential prospects. This enables more informed decision-making and streamlined operations across the business.
Competitive Analysis:
During the competitive analysis, it was important to design a solution that could accommodate all business types while offering features that competitors lacked. For example, platforms like Distru and PistilData are limited to distributors and suppliers, whereas BDSA serves a broader audience but does not provide a complete set of features. This informed our approach to create a more inclusive and fully featured platform that addresses the gaps in the market.
User Personas:
Through interviews with experienced professionals in the cannabis industry, I gained valuable insights into the diverse range of users who would interact with our product. Key user groups included retailers, sales representatives, distributors, cultivators, and manufacturers. Two representative personas, Sarah and Greg, illustrate common challenges: both manage busy operations, oversee product quality, and maintain business relationships, often relying on outdated and inefficient technology that hampers productivity and decision-making.
User Flows:
I developed multiple user flows to guide the development team and map the user journey across key tasks. The flow above illustrates the process for a sales representative to quickly create a new connection. To streamline this experience, we implemented a QR code that functions as a digital business card. Scanning the QR code enables instant connections, automating client relationship management, enhancing product visibility, and simplifying onboarding—all while reducing friction in the sign-up process.
Version 1:
The initial version of the product featured a robust back end with a basic front-end layout. While this version successfully integrated all core functionalities, its user experience required significant improvement. Considerable effort had gone into building a fully functioning platform, but the interface and interactions needed a comprehensive redesign to make the platform intuitive, efficient, and user-friendly.
Version 2:
Following a complete redesign and rebrand, the platform was implemented with a responsive design for mobile and tablet use. The updated interface is significantly more visually appealing and easier to navigate than the previous version. This redesign reflects the current state of the platform, combining improved usability with a cohesive and modern aesthetic.
Conclusion:
The redesign and development of Outspoke demonstrates the critical role of user-centered design in complex, data-driven platforms. By conducting research, defining user personas, and iterating on flows and interfaces, the project delivered a more intuitive, efficient, and visually cohesive experience for a diverse range of users in supply chain management. While some areas still require refinement, the work completed lays a strong foundation for adoption, engagement, and long-term impact.
